Andrew Mercer
B.A., LL.B.
Personal Injury Lawyer
Assistant:
Andrew Mercer leads the property damage practice at Preszler Injury Lawyers. His work is focused exclusively on insurance coverage disputes, where he assists individuals and businesses dealing with denied, delayed, or underpaid property insurance claims.
He regularly helps policyholders facing major losses connected to fires, floods, severe weather, and other significant property damage events. Andrew also has experience across a broad range of insurance matters, including automobile insurance, commercial general liability, errors and omissions coverage, directors and officers insurance, crime and dishonesty policies, title insurance, and other commercial insurance products.
Before dedicating his practice to policyholder advocacy, Andrew gained experience representing insurers. That background now gives him practical insight into how insurance companies analyze claims, evaluate exposure, and respond when coverage is disputed. He now uses that knowledge to help clients pursue fair treatment under their policies and move forward after serious losses.
Andrew has appeared before all levels of court and has also acted in commercial arbitrations. He is well-versed in the insurance appraisal process and has served as an appraiser, an umpire, and counsel in judicial reviews involving appraisal awards. Clients value his ability to turn complicated insurance issues into practical advice they can understand and act on.
In addition to his legal practice, Andrew has made significant academic contributions to insurance law. He is a co-author of Introduction to Canadian Insurance Law, Auto Insurance Coverage Law in Ontario, and the “Security for Costs” chapter in Civil Practice and Procedure in Ontario. He has also published academic articles and taught Civil Procedure as an adjunct professor at Western University.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys time with his two young children and playing guitar when he gets the chance.
